When you think New Years Resolutions, you may think about getting organized, getting in shape or even pulling out of financial debt. However, New Years Resolutions are simply goals and tasks that you would like to complete in the new year. Why not include purchasing a new home, completing small renovation projects, or even selling a home on your list? Once you write it down, it becomes all the more final.
Here are a few steps to ensure you don’t skip out on your home-related New Years Resolutions this coming year:
1. Brainstorm a “wish” list BEFORE you create your resolutions.
Think this through! Write down anything and everything your heart desires, but keep in mind that it is a real “wish” list. 90% of these items may not make it through to your home-related New Years Resolutions list.
2. Determine what’s necessary, or what you think is necessary, to complete each item on your “wish” list.
Knowing what you are getting yourself into ahead of time will be easier than being caught off-guard, mid-year when you go to actually complete your goals. If you start off with grand illusions of something spectacular only to find out that later you won’t be able to accomplish it because you don’t have the time or the funds, your resolution will be a bust.
If you are looking to buy or sell a home in 2015, think about choosing a real estate agent, securing financing and everything involved with that. If you need to look for a new job or start a business to create some side cash, you need to know ahead of time!
3. Choose a few of the higher-priority, more realistic goals after completing steps 1 and 2 and ink them to complete in 2015.
This process might have taken a while, but it’s just 3 simple steps. Here is the instant gratification of having them written down on paper. Over 2015, these goals will become reality, or might shift a little, but be sure to have this list posted somewhere that you can be reminded often of what you are working for.
Will you be making home-based New Years Resolutions this year? How lofty are your dreams and can they be tamed to become reality?
