Drive-In Concerts, and Other Creative Ways to Social Distance

Amber RandhawaWhat's Happening Around Atlanta

Take-out, delivery and curbside service at restaurants and even breweries is the new normal in Atlanta, where social distancing measures are preventing us from dining and drinking in our favorite establishments. Keeping as many employees working as possible and finding ways to keep regulars and new patrons coming in has become the main focus of restaurant and bar owners across the city. What about venues that cater to live entertainment as well? They’re getting creative too, as we learned from an article in today’s AJC.

The Velvet Note in Alpharetta is a small establishment, but they’ve built a loyal following over the last eight years they’ve been in business, bringing world class jazz to Alpharetta. Performances taking place in their intimate listening room were already available to stream live, but this has now become the focus of their business model. Owner Tamara Fuller has continued airing local musicians who play for audiences watching on Facebook and YouTube. Viewings are free but listeners are asked to make donations through a new button on each site.

The Coronavirus has led to exercises in creativity at From the Earth Brewing in Roswell as well. Owner Tim Stevens will be hosting his first ever drive-in concert at the brewery this Sunday. Jamgrass banjo artist Jeff Mosier will perform in the brewery’s parking lot, with cars spaced 10 feet apart. Helping local musicians continue to make money while also bringing more customers in to purchase food and beer is the goal.
